We were raised on TV. Our culture has evolved such that certain items bring you status. When I was in middle school, makeup artists began posting videos on YouTube, which sparked the makeup hoarding movement. Sometimes we do things a certain way because they seem easier and quicker at the time. But if we had just done things the "hard" way – the better way – we would have saved much, much more than the time and effort it took to fix it.
